Long lines and excessive wait times at voting locations have become the most pervasive aand visible structural barriers in voting - most impacting Black and Latinx voters.
Recent examples:
* In the March 2020 Texas primary, voters at Texas Southern University, a historically Black university in Houston’s Third Ward neighborhood, reported waited times exceeding 6 hours.
* In the June 2020 Georgia primary election, voters in the predominantly Black Old Fourth Ward neighborhood of Atlanta reported waiting up to 5 hours to cast a vote.
Long lines and wait times have a significant impact. They cost voters time and money. They discourage eligible and registered voters from voting. And they can reduce turnout enough to determine outcomes in an election.
No voter should have this experience.
